Recently, the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) has issued the evaluation results of the projects accepted by the NSFC for the year 2011(a small portion of projects are still under evaluation). Of all the approved projects, Qingdao University of Science and Technology (QUST) has claimed 46, a 21% increase compared with that of last year. The total funds for the projects amount to 21.41 million, an increase 76.5% over that of last year at the same period. A breakthrough has been made in both the number of the projects and the total funds.
Qingdao University of Science and Technology (QUST) has applied 249 projects to NSFC, making a record in the number of projects applied. The approved projects are classified by departments as follows: Materials and Engineering Department 20; Chemical Science Department 19; Information Department 4; Life Science Department 2 and the Earth Science Department 1. According to the college, the projects can be classified as below: College of Chemistry 13; School of Polymer Science 10;College of Chemical Engineering 8 (including 2 projects of the Oil Refining Institution); College of Electromechanical Engineering 4; College of Materials 3; College of Environment and Safety Engineering 3; College of Information Science and Technology 2;College of Automation 2 and the Coordination Institution 1. The funds for all these projects total 21.41 million. Professor Zhang Baoquan, a Taishan Scholar of QUST, has been granted a key project.
