Recently, the life-saving story of Wang Yuexi, a student of Qingdao University of Science and Technology (QUST), has been widely spread on and off campus and has won wide acclaim from the society.
At 10 a.m.of November 12th, a thrilling scene occurred in a manhole onEastLiaoyang Road, on the north side of QUST Laoshan Campus. Mr.Wu, a 47-year-old worker, suddenly became unconscious while working in the manhole, and his workmate Zhang Shifu called for help. Wang Yuexi, a QUST student of the Material Forming and Control Engineering Major (Sino-Korean Program,Class 152) of Electromechanical Engineering College, happened to pass by. "I was injured in the wrist two days ago. I was going out to buy medicine when I heard the call for help and immediately went to help them." said Wang Yuexi.
Soon, policemen came and tooka rescue rope from their patrol wagon. In the manhole, Wang Yuexi tied the rope to Mr. Wu and held him up. Above the manhole, three policemen pulled up the rope. It took about 7 minutes toget Mr. Wu out of the manhole. "What was in your mind when you saw the thrilling scene?” Being interviewed, Wang Yuexi, a 21-year-old young man, smiled and said, "It is important to save people! I think everyone willimmediately help in this situation."
It is understood that Wang Yuexi is from Shouguang City, Shandong Province. He is the monitor of Class 152 of the Sino-Korean Program since he entered QUST. In his daily life, he often helps and cares for classmates, a good friend of his classmates and a good assistant to his teachers. He is also a martial arts fan, likes Chinese traditional culture,andhas won a second-class scholarship. He is now preparing to sign up for the postgraduate examinations for History Major at Shandong Normal University.
