Professor Wang Dianhui, Dean of the Intelligent Chemical Engineering Research Institute, National Distinguished Expert, and faculty member of the School of Data Science at Qingdao University of Science and Technology (QUST), was recently invited by the organizing committee of the 10th "AI Journey 2025" International Conference to Moscow for a nine-day in-depth academic exchange. Focusing on cutting-edge directions such as the application of artificial intelligence (AI) technology in control decision-making and industrial intelligence, this visit is a key initiative of QUST to advance the construction of the “AI + Chemical Engineering” interdisciplinary system and strengthen its international cooperation layout. It demonstrates the university’s forward-looking strategic vision of promoting disciplinary transformation and upgrading through the Intelligent Chemical Engineering Research Institute as a platform.

At the 10th AI Journey International Conference, Professor Wang Dianhui held a high-level dialogue with Dmitry Chernyshenko, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, on the crucial role of AI in control and decision-making systems, emphasizing the core value of lightweight machine learning models in the construction of future industrial intelligent systems. Professor Wang delivered a plenary report entitledIssues, Challenges and Developments in Machine Learning for Industrial AIat the plenary session, systematically introducing QUST’s original achievements in fundamental theories of industrial AI and core algorithms such as deep random vector functional-link networks, which attracted great attention from international peers.
After the conference, Anna Prokhorova, Programme Director of the AI Journey Conference, sent a letter of thanks, singing high praise for Professor Wang’s academic contributions. She stated that Professor Wang’s speech “elevated the academic quality of the conference and inspired innovative thinking among the participants” and sincerely invited him to continue participating in the 2026 conference to further deepen bilateral cooperation.
During the visit, Professor Wang was also invited to visit Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology (Skoltech), a top Russian research institution. He held in-depth discussion with Professor Grigory Kabatiansky, Vice President of Skoltech and Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, as well as Professor Evgeny Burnaev, Director of the Applied Artificial Intelligence Research Center. The two parties reached a consensus on jointly establishing the “AI for Engineering” International Joint Laboratory, drafted a cooperation memorandum, and planned to accelerate the signing of the agreement and the substantive operation of the laboratory. Meanwhile, at the invitation of Turing Fellow Professor Ivan Tyukin, Professor Wang gave an academic report to teachers and students of Skoltech and participated in the pre-defense of doctoral students, further strengthening the mutual trust foundation between the two universities in scientific research collaboration and high-level talent training.
This exchange marks a landmark progress in promoting high-level international cooperation since the establishment of QUST’s Intelligent Chemical Engineering Research Institute. The exchanges and discussions have not only enhanced QUST’s international visibility in the field of AI and engineering integration but also laid a solid foundation for the university to strengthen the construction of the “Intelligence +” discipline cluster and build a high-end scientific research cooperation network connecting China and foreign countries.
In the next step, the Intelligent Chemical Engineering Research Institute will continue to expand strategic cooperation with top global institutions, promote the empowerment of traditional chemical engineering disciplines through AI technology, and help QUST seize opportunities and take the lead in the new round of technological and industrial transformation.
